Should Elon Musk Sit Down With Bill Gates to Discuss Climate?

Image
The beef soup between Bill Gates and Elon Musk doesn't seem to be simmering down any time soon!  The two had a small online spat during the pandemic in 2020 but it seems that engine has revved up again recently when Bill Gates sat down with Bloomberg to discuss his climate tech investments and solutions.  These two men have tremendous influence, intelligence and resources that, when combined in partnership, could do so much good for the world.  The world will never know why the two businessmen choose to keep a distance.  It's actually a bit pitiful and kind of like watching a father and son throw digs at the other every so often.  They probably could learn a fair amount of knowledge from each other if they were to put their small differences aside. There are indicators that lead me to believe that the two would get along IRL if they were both willing to clear a time in their schedules, plan a meeting and have a serious discussion about matters that are near and dear to the bot

Brave Neurosurgeon Tells Why he Left Western Medicine

Image
The field of medicine has evolved since its earliest and historical days when Hippocrates sought out a new system to explain and understand illnesses.  During those days, the main goal was to diagnose an individual's problem and provide a way to restore balance among the humors using logic and philosophy. Modernized western medicine has since become solely reliant on scientific methods and pathologic anatomy to diagnose and treat diseases (Mantri, 2008).  The original Hippocratic school of thought placed emphasis on an integrative mind-body-personality ideology or philosophy (Mantri, 2008).  The system of Western medicine has led to some ethical problems that can affect the therapeutic relationship.  Some of these problems include the depersonalization of a patient and the removal of the patient as equal partners in their care.   Calls for the return of Western medicine to its original Hippocratic roots have been made by various individuals within the field.  However, there is a pe

Coffee Tea?! My Coffee Secret

Image
NCDT (National Coffee Data Trends) have reported that as much as 67% of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis.  That amount increases to 75% when determining the amount of adults who drink coffee on a weekly basis.  One lesser known fact is that the global coffee market is expected to reach 182 billion by the year 2030.  What is it about that little dark bean, available in so many varieties, that causes people to be unable to go about their daily lives without it?  It must be the flavor, as some people swear by coffees made in various countries.  If it's not Columbian or Jamaican coffee, some will not even touch the mug!  Then there are the coffee chain fan clubs who must have their daily Starbucks or Tim Horton's signature espresso in the morning.  Let's be real, the taste of coffee isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when dark.  Quite possibly, it may be the alertness that coffee provides after consumption which have some people hooked.   The alertness a

MyBacon Vegan Mycelium Bacon Review

Image
There’s been a recent shift in the vegan meat market to incorporate a beneficial part of mushroom—mycelium. Mycelium is the hidden root-like structure of fungi that is found in the soil underneath it.  Mycelium consists of a network of thin fungal strands called hyphae. The mycelium provides nutrients and digestive enzymes to its host source.  While on the prowl for the best vegan bacon, I came across a brand that I’d never seen before.  MyBacon produces a farm grown mycelium plant-based bacon.  The Challenge of Finding a Good Vegan Bacon     When I saw the brand at Whole Foods, I automatically thought highly of its packaging which displayed pictures of the juicy looking vegan bacon that truly resembled real bacon. MyBacon mycelium bacon  costs $9 a package. Why it's the same price as actual organic bacon I have no idea but it's no problem because it’s super hard out here to find vegan bacon that actually tastes good. After trying all the brands available for plant-based bacon

The Cancer Causing Candy that You Must Stop Eating!

Image
They’re tiny, cute, fluffy and squishy and they usually come in an array of colors but don’t let the cute looks fool you! Nor should you savor that gooey, chewy bunny-shaped airy confection that you might like to eat around Easter time.  What candy could this possibly be...?? Peeps is a marshmallow candy manufactured by Just Born Quality Confections.  The company produces its colorful confections with FD&C dye no 3.  This particular FD&C dye produces pinks, purples, and reds and is also known as erythrosine.  Folks, if you’re still purchasing foods with FD&C dyes and artificial colors, it’s high time you think and stop.  There are a host of FD&C dyes that are quite harmful to the human body.  Many of these dyes are carcinogenic and can lead to cancer. Carcinogenic food dyes such as Red no. 3, Red no. 40, Yellow no. 5 and blue no. 1 are banned in Europe.  These artificial dyes are linked to behavioral problems in children with ADHD, allergic reactions and sustained infla

Battle of the Prepared Meal Programs: FACTOR 75 vs. Cook Unity

Image
I’ve been trying popular meal kit and prepared meal programs so that you can make an informed decision about which is best for you!  The point is also to inform consumers about what their food will look like in reality as well as what they can expect when they join.  I came across an ad for Factor a few hours before I saw one for a similar company named Cook Unity.   I actually signed up with Factor75 first but I paused my first box after I visited Cook Unity’s website.  I’m glad that I did as I have another company to compare Factor75 to.   Factor75 isn’t like your Hello Fresh, Marley Spoon, Dinnerly and Green Chefs of the world.  Companies such as Factor and Cook Unity prepare the food and ship them to you already cooked. They sell individualized prepared meals and there is no cooking or food prep involved.  You select the meals that you desire, they’ll arrive to your door and voila…it’s heat and eat time! Now, I could sum this up in one sentence and make the recommendation for the p

Cooking Unified: Here’s What I Love about Cook Unity!

Image
I was scrolling down my social media fashion filled timeline when a company by the name of Cook Unity suddenly appeared. The ad was very simple and it contained photos of scrumptious food; enough to draw any foodie in! I thought to myself..there’s no way this is a regular meal delivery company.  Everything looked so palatable and enticing!   Signing up with Cook Unity was more than a breeze. The ad brought me to the website and I signed up immediately.  Cook Unity offers a wealth of meal selections.  Whatever your tastebuds are desiring, they have it all.  You will get the chance to taste the world whether it’s Latin, African, Asian or Italian food, they’ve got a great gourmet pick.  Cook Unity has the most diverse meal selections that I’ve seen of any meal delivery program—one advantage that they have over other meal delivery companies such as Hello Fresh, Gobble or Green Chef.                                              Salmon Teriyaki with Brown Rice, Brussel Sprouts & Carrots

Is This the End for Daily Harvest?

Image
Daily Harvest took the superfood and health food industries by storm.  Every time you came across an ad in 2019-2020, it was for a Daily Harvest product.  Influencers and youtubers promoted Daily Harvest with all that was within them.  Some bragged how they loved the convenience of Daily Harvest and sold the masses on the idea that one could consume healthy food without having to do the work of sourcing and preparing it themselves. It was simple. Head right to the freezer, pull out a fonio grits bowl and dragonfuit smoothie and free up your time for other essential duties.   What Happened at Daily Harvest One thing is sure: Daily Harvest is a marketing force to be reckoned with.  They used various methods to market and won over a vast customer base which includes celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and chef Bobby Flay.  Not only that, they managed to keep their customers and became so successful that they received a valuation between $1B-$10B.  Currently, the tides have changed. Daily

The Healthiest Vegetable in the World

Image
Move over kale and broccoli. There’s a new vegetable star in town!! The CDC (US Center for Disease Control and Prevention) announced that watercress is the world’s healthiest vegetable. Complete nutritional profile scores for vegetables range from 1-100.  Watercress scored a perfect 100. What’s So Special about Watercress? The scientific name of watercress is Lepidium Sativum.  This powerhouse leafy vegetable has a fresh, peppery flavor.  It has a deep rich green appearance with long slender stems.  It was first commercially cultivated in England by horticulturalist, William Bradberry, in 1808.  Watercress has also been used as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments.  Native Americans used it to treat kidney diseases and to help alleviate constipation. The Turkish used it as a drug to treat stomach pain and Iranian traditional medicine administered it as an antidiabetic solution (Panahi Kokhdan et al., 2021).  Ancient Persians and Romans believed watercress was an aphrodisiac.  Ind

The Science is Very Clear On which Diet is Better for the Environment

Image
There’s no question that the meat production industry has an extremely negative impact on the health of our planet.  Research has proven that one’s carbon footprint can be reduced by as much as 73% (Poore & Nemecek, 2018). Green Lifestyle Organization’s Beef and Meat Free Environmental Initiative was created with this knowledge in mind.  Not only are meat and animal emissions effecting the environment in a harmful way, there are also many health risks associated with excessive meat and animal consumption.   Fad diets such as the keto diet, which incorporate heavy and excessive animal and dairy consumption are not beneficial to environment nor to the body.  Eating a keto diet raises the risk of increased LDL cholesterol levels and artery blockages as proven through research conducted by the American College of Cardiology. More studies have been conducted which have contributed to the body of knowledge concerning the benefits of eating a plant based diet where climate change is a pri

The New Beyond Steak: Green News Guide Reviews

Image
The new meatless steak by Beyond Meat is a hot item.  I can count at least two times where I intended to purchase Beyond Meat’s new meatless steak and it was completely out of stock in both stores.  I am going to give you the real deal nitty gritty about Beyond Steak.   When I first heard about Beyond Meat’s new steak and looked at a picture of the package, I thought, “hmmmm….will this be similar to the taste of Gardein’s beefless tips?" They do look kind of similar to each other.  Even though I have used Gardein’s beefless steak in various recipes, I’m not sold out about the taste.  That product has somewhat of a cardboard taste (not gonna lie)!  When I finally got my hands on Beyond Meat’s Steak courtesy of Amazon Fresh, I instantly thought about the recipe that I would use it for.  I decided to do a seared mixup with some peppers and onions on top a bed of fluffy rice.  I was pleasantly surprised at how great Beyond Steak tastes as well as how similar the texture is to real ste

What Research Has Revealed about Medicinal Mushrooms

Image
What Research Has Revealed about Medicinal Mushrooms Introduction The branch of medicine that involves the consumption of foods as medicine is called Functional Medicine or or the new scientific discipline of “functional food science.”  The father of medicine, Hippocrates, once said, “Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine thy food.” There are many healing and health benefits that can be achieved when consuming certain foods.  The nutritional value of mushrooms is high due to the amount of minerals, protein and vitamins like D2, C, B that they contain.   Mushrooms are antiinflueza, anti-inflammatory, anticancerous, antiinfective, antidiabetic and antimicrobial (Elkhateeb, Daba, Thomas & Wen, 2019; Ganeshpurkar, Rai & Jain, 2010; Sabaratnam et al., 2013).  If one is looking for the richest source to aid in relief of these types of conditions, they should look no further than the medicinal mushroom.  People in countries of Asia (Japan, Korea, China) and eastern Russia have wid

Remembering Queen Elizabeth! Making her pancake recipe

Image
One day after the last Green News Guide article was written, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully on September the 8 th .  I always thought that the Queen would live past the age of 100 like her mother.  The Queen had been visibly getting more frail since the death of her husband. Even though we all know she was up there in age, it comes as a shock because she was just seen appointing the new Prime Minister Liz Truss two days prior.  It goes to show that nothing lasts forever  and what’s here today can be gone tomorrow.     Queen Elizabeth II was blessed to have the longest reign of all monarchs past and present. Yes, there were some negatives that happened as a result of the early British Empire but it’s important to focus on the positive especially considering that history cannot be changed.  If we can remember or learn anything from the queen, it should be her steadfast loyalty. The Queen was an exemplary model of real loyalty and faithfulness, characteristic which are truly ha
