Coffee Tea?! My Coffee Secret

Image
NCDT (National Coffee Data Trends) have reported that as much as 67% of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis.  That amount increases to 75% when determining the amount of adults who drink coffee on a weekly basis.  One lesser know fact is that the global coffee market is expected to reach 182 billion by the year 2030.  What is it about that little dark bean, available in so many varieties, that cause people to be unable to go about their daily lives without it?  It must be the flavor as some people swear by coffees made in various countries.  If it's not Columbian or Jamaican coffee, some will not even touch the mug.  Then there are the coffee chain fan clubs who must have their daily Starbucks or Tim Horton's signature espresso in the morning.  Let's be real, the taste of coffee isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when dark.  Quite possibly, it may be the alertness that coffee provides after consumption which have some people hooked.   The alertness and

Toxic Fragrances & Perfumes? How to Differentiate!

Image
Sandalwood, amber, peach, peony and vanilla are sensuous notes that could make up a favorite perfume’s scent profile.  Perfumes and colognes may smell delightful but have you ever wondered about the ingredients in your perfumes? Designer and commercially produces perfumes and colognes often contain harmful and carcinogenic substances such as phthalates and parabens.  The ingredient list of a designer perfume may look like this: Alcohol Denat., Fragrance (Parfum), Water\Aqua\Eau, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Linalool, Limonene, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Cinnamate, Citronellol, Evernia Prunastri (Oakmoss) Extract, Citral, Eugenol, Benzyl Alcohol, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate. This ingredient list contains harsh synthetic ingredients, skin sensitizers, cinnamates, salicylates and the word "fragrance." Who knows what ingredients are in that "fragr

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Serum Foundation Review

Image
Juice Beauty has a new foundation and I'm so excited to GAB all about it! About a year ago, as I embarked on my never ending search for the “holy grail” natural foundation, I came across Juice Beauty’s only foundation at the time. It was the Juice Beauty Perfecting Foundation.  Unfortunately, there were only three shades in this foundation and none of them were for darker skin tones! Slightly annoyed about the lack of foundation shades, I decided to email Juice Beauty to ask them to please introduce shades for women with darker skin tones.  The issue of a lack of foundation shades for darker skin tones seems to be pretty widespread. I can think of quite a few prominent natural makeup and cosmetic brands that do not carry shades for darker skin tones or do not have enough shade matches for these skin tones. What’s the deal with that?! Don’t forget about the other end of the color rainbow my wonderful organic and natural companies!!  Women with darker skin tones are interested in cru

Green Festival Expo 2016 Review: Hush + Dotti

Image
There were so many amazing brands and companies that were in attendance at the 2016 Green Festival Expo in NYC. Here is a product review of one of cosmetic company, Hush + Dotti. Hush + Dotti Review Firstly…can I just talk about the name of this company?! Hush + Dotti is such a cute name!!!! Oh, how I love it!  I stopped by the Hush & Dotti’s vendor area when I saw all the pretty organic lipsticks and other cosmetics that were organized on the table.  Dina was very pleasant in answering questions that I had about the products.  I remember asking her if the one shade of red lipstick was the only one they carried.  It was nice but I desired a hue that was a bit brighter!  Instead, I opted for a coral colored lipstick, which looks fantastic on tanned/darker complexions.  The shade name is Dotti.  I also chose a lip gloss that is a glossy shade of burgundy in shade Wendi.  It’s pretty amazing!!  The packaging is really chic and minimal for cosmetics.  The lipsticks are in a standard bl

Green Festival Expo 2016 Review: In Harmony Naturals

Image
In Harmony Naturals I was happy to find a few cosmetic companies at Green Festival, NYC.  The next table that I stopped at was In Harmony, LLC.  They carry mineral makeup and skin care products.  The woman behind the table matched me to a foundation and I was surprised by how alluring it looked on my skin.  This foundation is definitely buildable in  light-medium coverage.  I have used it as a finishing powder for counteracting the shine from my liquid foundation.  When you open the foundation, you’ll see the holes that allow for the minerals to come out.  Using your mineral makeup brush, you just shake the product slightly and sweep your brush against the opening and apply it to your face.  It offers a nice, matte finish. The price was $35. The pecan shade is a little darker than what I expected after doing a full face.  I’d recommend In Harmony design a shade between pecan and walnut. The other product that I purchased from In Harmony Naturals is a lavender body butter.  It claims to

Real Purity Lipstick Review

Image
I discovered the Real Purity Brand on the EWG cosmetics database.  Their cosmetics had excellent ratings with practically no health concerns whatsoever.  Real Purity utilizes pure ingredients and there are no toxic junk in their cosmetics and skin care products.  I cannot wait to try some of their skin care products.   For now, I'll leave you with this brief review of their lipstick.  When I went over to the website, I was ecstatic to see so many shades.  I've found that when shopping for cosmetics with toxic free brands, there really aren't too many choices for darker skin tones.  Real Purity probably has over 20 lipstick shades to choose from.  The color in review is called Harvest Blush and it is on the brown - copper toned scale of the color continuum.  Applying the lipstick is a snazz! It goes on really smooth.  While turning the barrel to get the lipstick out, I noticed that it was kind of slim compared to other lipsticks that I own.  The color was pretty apparent and

Earth Lab Cosmetics Vegan Mineral Pencil Review

Image
Next on the review plate is Canadian brand-- Earth Lab Cosmetics, vegan mineral pencil. I had been looking across the seas and beyond to find a good, wholesome, chemical free eyeliner. Fortunately, this little beauty in all of its natural goodness caught my eye.  Canadian makeup brands are usually conscious companies who care about the environment and well being.  This is a really great jojoba based eyeliner pencil.  The strokes that the liner provides are thick and it quickly lines the lid.  Thinner, liquid based eyeliners require a very steady hand in order to achieve precision.  If you prefer your liner to apply like the consistency of a crayon, then this is the one for you.  This eye pencil can even be used as an eye shadow for a daring smoky eye look.   You will be able to create sultry, bold and velvety eye looks with this mineral pencil. It's so smooth and soft going on! The natural and vegan ingredients in the product make it ideal for sensitive skin or eyes. Natural makeup
