Tempo by Home Chef | Green News Guide Reviews
Tempo meals is a weekly food delivery service that offers flavorful protein centered meals in the quantity of your choosing. If you’ve been rocking with the Green News Guide then you might have read previous reviews about other food delivery services such as Cook Unity, Mosaic or Gobble. Tempo was originally launched by Home Chef in October of 2023. I found their meal selection process to be super easy and the website was very user friendly. Customers can select the subscription of their choice based on the number of meals desired on a weekly basis. One can opt for a quantity of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 meals per week at $11 per serving.
Ordering & Delivery process
Tempo’s meals usually feature a protein (beef, chicken, fish, shrimp) that is usually paired with a vegetable medley. There is also the choice to select from “premium” meal options that are about $3-$5 additional per serving. One con that I noticed about Tempo is that there is usually only one choice for vegetarian or vegan eaters. Since I do consume seafood from time to time, I was able to select from those options but it is a suggestion that Tempo begin offering more vegetarian entrees. I can see this potentially being a huge determining factor in whether a plant based consumer will try out or even continue the Tempo meal delivery subscription service. If you are a regular consumer of animal based protein then you will have several options to choose from.
Meals at Tempo are selected a week ahead on the day of your choosing and they are delivered the next week. Your card on file will automatically be charged but you do have the option to skip weeks if you aren’t interested in the current week’s offerings. The delivery process was smooth and items arrived in individual sealed containers in a large cooler packed box. I absolutely love the logo that appears on the boxes. It says: “Eat Better...Cook Never!”
Get a load of that! If you love the convenience of not having to cook and also desire healthy, portion controlled meals that are packed with flavor then Tempo is the meal plan for you. If you have embarked on a keto, Atkins or paleo centric lifestyle, Tempo is certainly for you! When the meals arrive, all you have to do is slide off the outer insert and remove the seal. Heat the meals in the microwave for 3-4 minutes and voila...lunch or dinner is ready! Tempo also offers breakfast options like sandwiches and egg bites. I even saw a few cool desserts too. With that said, let’s talk taste!
Do Tempo Meals Taste Good?!
Absolutely yes! I had zero issues with the taste of my (8) selected meals and would highly recommend Tempo just on the taste alone. So far every week that I've ordered from Tempo has been complete satisfaction. The egg white bites I received are a spinach florentine circular sort which is made with feta cheese and red peppers. It was so convenient to heat these up and have a light breakfast ready in no time. They were very tasty but just a tad bit salty. The egg white bites are made using cage free eggs and they contain a whopping 13g of protein. Totally a great way to start the day!
A few of the meals that I received are:
Parmesan Alfredo Salmon (premium)- Hands down amazing and brimming with flavor. This gourmet restaurant quality meal featured a creamy alfredo sauce over the nicely seasoned salmon. What an absolute treat! I actually want to recreate this meal myself. (5 stars)
Teriyaki Salmon- This meal featured a teriyaki drenched salmon with a side of a grain and vegetable medley. The salmon is perfectly cooked and the sauce complimented the dish so well. (5 stars)
Steakhouse Salmon Au Poivre (premium)- Wow! This meal was excellent. The roasted potatoes complimented the salmon which was topped with a black pepper cream sauce. One aspect that I’ve realized is that Tempo does really good salmon. (5 stars)
Elote Corn Cavatappi- This is a super delicious vegetarian pasta with a chili feel and a mega spicy kick. Chef’s kiss (5 stars)
White Wine Garlic Shrimp- I love shrimp and while the shrimp dishes from Tempo are pretty good, I have one qualm to note and it is that they are a bit overdone. I’d suggest leaving the shrimp slightly undercooked when packing since they are going to cook in the microwave or oven when the customer receives it. Being pre-cooked and then also being heated in the microwave may be the reason why they are too chewy for my liking. The white wine sauce was excellent! (3.5 stars)
Shrimp Paella- This dish had a nice Spanish flair. Jumbo shrimp are accompanied by a bed of orzo that is soaked in a light sauce and finished with feta on top. The veggies featured were spinach and sweet potato. Loved this entree! (4 stars)
All in all, I can only highly recommend Tempo!! Without any doubts or reserves. They offer high quality, nutrient dense meals that are sooo flavorful. Cook Unity, you definitely have some competition on your hands. If you are looking for a meal delivery service that is protein centric what exactly are you waiting for?
