The Princess of Wales completed the Three Peaks challenge over the weekend.  The challenge involves a blend of driving and trekking through three of the highest mountain peaks in England, Scotland and Wales--Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa. The challenge areas cover 23 miles of walking distance along with a 462 mile drive between each peak.   The challenge is open to the public and many aim to walk to the summit of the peaks within 24 hours.  However, the trek is so grueling and extensive that only 40% of the individuals attempting the challenge are able to complete it within this timeframe.  It is recommended that individuals desiring to complete the Three Peaks Challenge engage in strength training over a period of eight to twelve weeks. Whether Catherine engaged in strength training is unknown but she has always been quite athletic.  Not only did Catherine complete the challenge--she is part of the smaller percentage of people who were able to comp...

Madagascar President to WHO: “Endorse COVID Organics!”

Madagascar developed an herbal drink and introduced it on April 20th. It is being hailed as a cure for COVID-19 in Africa. WHO has licensed many herbal medicines for the treatment of various illnesses. The president, Andry Rajeolina, became irate because WHO made no mention of the herbal drink.

Matshidiso Moeti, regional director of WHO office in Africa, stated
“We have offered to support the design of a study to look into this product. We are in discussion to sort out the way forward,''
Covid Organics was developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA) and the drink has been shipped to various African countries such as Chad, Guinea Bissau and Nigeria.
The Covid Organics drink is produced from the Artemisia plant, an ingredient used in the treatment of Malaria and ravensara.

Artemisinin is a recognized component of pharmaceutical antimalarials such as hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine. Studies have been completed with the drug hydroxychlorquine and it has been found to cause heart problems and does not effectively treat COVID-19.
The drink has been found to cure 105 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, according to the president of Madagascar. Rajeolina expressed that the drink can be used for preventative measures.
The Covid Organics drink is now being sold in supermarkets and stores in the country’s capital and given for free to those who cannot afford it. President Rajeolina has developed strict policy for the drinking of Covid Organics. Secondary students were able to go back to school only if they consumed the Covid Organics drink.
When asked about efficacy and safety by traditional medicine proponents, Rajeolina said:
“When we are in this period of war, what is the proof we can show or give?" It is, of course, the healing of our sick."

Artemisia has been a valuable alternative treatment for COVID-19 in Africa for both preventative and curative purposes.

Madagascar has reported a total of 322 Covid-19 cases as of this date of this number, 119 people have recovered. There has been one death due to Covid-19.

Approximately 10 African countries have developed plans for clinical trials to study Artemisia and implications geared to COVID-19.
